I wore this outfit on two consecutive Saturday nights; the first in Ireland, the second in Scotland. Both were networking events, a mixture of business and pleasure and both preceded a Sunday on which I was presenting at an optometry conference. Mirror selfies -(with a non-removable smudge on the mirror- I did try to clean it-) are all I have- but they do at least show the outfit. So, like the dress, this blog post will be short and sweet.

Chanel-Inspired Boucle Dress
You might remember this Chanel-inspired Boden Dress from the post I wrote a few months ago, detailing a few sale purchases I’d made. I don’t wear black very often and I don’t wear anything above my knee very often. I have nothing against my knees by the way- I have simply favoured midi or maxi lengths of late. This little black dress though has already proved to be a great investment. The metallic fibres in the dress make it feel very festive as do the sparkly buttons, but it could very easily be dressed down by adding a thin sweater underneath and wearing thicker tights and flat knee boots. A black or white collar underneath would mix things up too.

The dress is understandably out of stock because it went into the sale, but Self Portrait, one of my favourite brands, have got a lot of boucle dresses and co-ords with a similar aesthetic. Indeed, one could be forgiven for thinking Boden are paying homage to Self Portrait paying homage to Chanel…
I had to look back through my early blog posts to see when I got the shoes. I think it was about 2013. My blog was in its infancy then. They were from Topshop, and back in the day, anyone who was anyone raved about Topshop. I must be honest and say I purchased very little from there but these black and silver glitter shoes have really stood the test of time.
Bows on Everything
Bows have been everywhere for a few seasons now. My black velvet bag with its beautiful bow embellishment is a few years old, another Boden purchase. And again, Self Portrait have a whole collection of gorgeous handbags bedecked with bows. Accessories are a great way of embracing a trend. They make all the difference to an outfit and a carefully curated selection of jewellery, handbags and shoes will last a lifetime and can update and change an outfit with the minimum of thought required. These bow “pearl” earrings for example, that I wore in the previous blog post are simultaneously on-trend and timeless.

The carousel below shows a selection of bows, all of which are available at the time of writing and would make for lovely Christmas gifts.
